What
is Spam?
In simple terms unsolicited commercial e-mail,
Spam e-mail, bulk e-mail, mass e-mail, junk
e-mail (known as Spam) is an e-mail message that
you send to someone without their consent. It is
the electronic equivalent of the junk mail you
receive in your post box. But it is worse. See Why is Spam bad? below.
In more advanced
terms there are three main types of Spam: Usenet,
message board and e-mail. Usenet and message
board Spam are messages sent or posted which are
unrelated to the topic of discussion of the
particular news group or message board. E-mail
Spam is any electronic mail message that is
addressed to a recipient with whom the initiator
does not have an existing business or personal
relationship and is not sent at the request of,
or with the express consent of, the recipient.
What
is your anti-Spam policy?
Very simply, if you Spam, you are out - your
account will be closed, your referrals will be
lost, and you will be ineligible for a new
account. Furthermore, all members up-line from
you will lose the benefit of your referrals.
Why
is Spam bad?
Spam is bad for a multitude of reasons. Like junk
mail you receive in your post mailbox, electronic
junk mail is bad because it is a waste of
resources. It wastes your time because it takes
time to identify it as junk mail and it takes
time to discard it. However, electronic junk
mail, or e-mail Spam, is unique in that the
receiver pays so much more for it than the sender
does. For example, it has been reported that AOL
were receiving 1.8 million Spams from one company
alone per day until they got a court injunction
to stop it. Assuming that it takes the typical
AOL user only 10 seconds to identify and discard
a message, that's still 5,000 hours of connect
time per day spent discarding their Spam.
